Experience exhilarating and dynamic choreography by internationally renowned choreographers Johan Inger, Ohad Naharin and Filipe Portugal in Ballet Ireland’s Bold Moves 2024. Feel the beauty, passion and energy in this incredible triple-bill this spring.
Johan Inger created Walking Mad in 2001 for the Nederlands Dans Theater, and found inspiration in the statement by Socrates: “Our greatest gifts come to us in a state of madness.” The set design for this work is more than ever an essential aspect of its conception featuring a long palisade which dancers use as both a spatial divide that stretches, moves about, and even turns over in order to become a dancefloor. The dancers demonstrate great spontaneity in order to confront the bizarre, even surreal situations as they are carried along the quick pace of Ravel’s Boléro.
On the 25th anniversary of its creation, Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16 makes a celebrated return. Featuring an eclectic score ranging from Dean Martin to mambo, techno to traditional Israeli music, Minus 16 uses improvisation and Naharin’s acclaimed ‘Gaga’ method, a unique movement language that breaks down old habits, pushing the dancers to challenge themselves in new ways. This popular piece is renowned for its unpredictability and fun that makes each performance of Minus 16 delightfully different for the audience and the dancers.
Filipe Portugal’s Stepping Over wowed audiences in our 2022 season with its dazzling precision and artistic elegance. It returns to our Bold Moves triple-bill in 2024.
