I was not going to mention the weather, nor refer to “back to school” widespread panic this time around. Yet, I cannot help to acknowledge the fact that the summer is about to end and let all the emotions and feelings flow in. Gone are the long and, sporadically, at least here in Ireland, sunny days and with them gone are the music festivals. You might not be a festivalgoer, but the end of summer does affect us all, one way or another.
It may seem kind of cheeky and little bit unimaginative to compare these mixtapes presented to you every month as sort of a festival of its own, but I think I think I can live with that comparison. The best part of it is that I am in charge of the line up! Therefore, I present to you The September 2017 Mixteval with headliners including such big names as MICK JAGGER, GORILLAZ, BECK, JESSIE WARE, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, THE NATIONAL AND LIAM GALLAGHER. The lineup wouldn’t be complete without more niche acts such as LALI PUNA, DIRTY PROJECTORS, DERADOORIAN, as well as some amazing debutants, XENOULA, REX ORANGE COUNTY, MOSES SUMNEY. You can dance to BICEP, TIGA and BALTRA, sway with YUMI ZOUMA, THE DUCKTAILS or chill to some FLEET FOXES, MEETING BY CHANCE or LEEPECK. And you don’t have to wear wellies and rain ponchos to enjoy the music.
Luckily for us the party doesn’t stop here and now, as the gigs and festivals move indoors for the last quarter of the year. Two major music events are still on the way: Metropolis at the RDS with TLC, LEFTFIELD and JUNGLE; and Samhain Festival 2017 at Weston Airport Dublin Hangar. The tickets for both festivals are still available and more acts to be announced. There’s also many gigs are scheduled in Dublin for the rest to the year: ST. VINCENT (20-21.10 in The Olympia), CHIC feat NILE ROGERS (25.10 @ 3Arena), LITTLE DRAGON (31.10 @ Vicar St.), QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE (24.11 @ 3Arena), GOGOL BORDELLO (11.12 @ THE ACADEMY) to name few. Keep your eyes peeled for more announcements.
That’s how you can spend and survive the upcoming months, by preparing yourself for the next festival season by listening and getting to know your new favourite artists. And our mixtapes are one of the best starting points of exploration out there.
Until next time, keep the music playing!
Yours truly,
