I have to admit, I love this time of the year. It’s a great time for music geeks like me. After an usually slow, summer season in music, September and October tent to bring a lot of fresh crop every year. It’s a very generous time and I feel spoilt with new albums and EP’s like a baby in a candy store.
September has already brought amazing releases from big names like Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Wilco, Devendra Banhart, Bon Iver, James Vincent McMorrow. M.I.A dropped what is suppose to be her farewell album, AIM. Not only previously announced releases came our way but also few surprises sprung over last few weeks. Beyonce’s little sister, Solange, French pop pixie, Petite Meller, electronic maverick, Nicolas Jaar and ambient group, Tycho, have all brought unexpected, yet very welcome, satisfaction to their fans with unexpected LP’s.
But that’s not all. There is still much more coming our way. Bands from around the world are gearing up for releasing their next records. Sweden’s weird folk, GOAT, Basque freak popsters, Crystal Fighters, Russian gloomy rockers Motorama and Belfast’s finest young talent, Two Door Cinema Club, to name few. British singer, producer and composer, Jamie Lidell, who has found a new home in Nashville, prepared a Stevie Wonder inspired soul album, Building A Beginning. All this music, and more, can be sampled on this month’s mixtape.
Finally, Beck promises to deliver his next, yet to be titled, record this month. Knowing how good the two singles preceding the album are, this is really exciting.
That’s a lot of material to wrap your ears around! Which is great, as the evenings get longer and longer. Not complaining, just compiling.
