Our November #MixTape is like dancing on a flower bed
“Writing about music is like dancing about architecture” claims the famous quote, which authorship has been argued for a long time. Was it Frank Zappa who first uttered it? Elvis Costello? Or was it an American comedian, Martin Mull? Miles Davis, Steve Martin, Laurie Anderson have also been credited for coining of the phrase. Even Roisin Murphy, of Moloko fame, said something like “Writing about music is like tap dancing on the flower bed”. I read that somewhere. I think. The point is that writing about music is utterly pointless. There’s nothing I can write in this intro that will make you listen to this month’s selection more, or less for that instance. I have chosen the music. You are going to like it or now. Some, most or none of it. Maybe all?
I could introduce the first section, which includes fresh 18 tracks from Poland, most of them strangely melancholic and nostalgic. Will that make you listen to it more eagerly?
That’s a lot of words for someone who’s trying to conceal their writer’s block. I hope to see you next month, and to my writer’s block I say “Good riddance, mate”
