Music tackles ALL THE GLOOM - Our November MixTape is Here!
Ugh. It’s starting to get miserable outside. It’s quickly getting dark earlier everyday. It’s more likely to rain. So unless you’re currently residing in the southern hemisphere, it’s time to find some inner sunshine to survive the late autumn. If you ask me, the music is always the remedy.
Here’s why this month’s selection comes in handy. Because it’s warm. Hot even. And maybe a solution for the miserable way your immediate surroundings make you feel right now. Maybe the weird version of 80’s pop (“Relaxed Lizard”) by the indie duo, Soft Hair, will help you push away the gloom. Perhaps the smoky, old-time rock’n’roll of Nick Waterhouse dueting with Leon Bridges (“Katchi”) will provide you with some dusty coziness. Maybe you need some politically charged gospel of Alicia Keys (“Pawn it all”) to spark up the fire within you. The soft, lazy bossanova of Devendra Barnhart (“Theme for a Taiwanese Woman in Lime Green”) and groovy funk from Black Peaches (“Fire & Water Sign”) may bring some echoes of long gone summer. And, the free spirited folk pop from bands like Goat, Crystal Fighters and Dungen is very likely make you’ll feel the carelessness of the outdoors of the summer festival in the middle of autumn. Pure escapism.
I myself feel like buying a yacht right now and cruising the coast of Argentina for a while.
I might sound like a broken record [sic!], but music can be the remedy. The remedy for all the gloom that is upon us. ALL THE GLOOM!
(I’m off to the yacht shop whistling “Juna” by The Mary Onettes.)
