MAGPIE

By Andrew Cusack

Starring Andrew Cusack, Johnjoe Irwin and Gavin Stewart

Two brothers divided by hate, reunited by fate. Set in the chilling confines of Kilmainham Gaol during Ireland’s Civil War, 1923. Magpie tells the story of Michael and Patrick Murphy. Michael, an IRA gunman scarred by the trenches of WWI, now faces his brother Patrick, a Free State jailer.

By 1924, Ireland had endured almost a decade of relentless war—both abroad and at home. Families, friendships, and entire communities lay shattered by conflict. Against this backdrop, Magpie probes the complexities of loyalty—between kin, country, and ideology—offering a haunting exploration of the personal cost of revolution.

A powerful anti-war drama, Magpie resonates deeply in today’s volatile times, reminding us of the enduring scars of division, Sacrifice and the fragile hope of peace.

After critically acclaimed Fringe runs in England, earning an OFFCOMM commendation, a OFFFEST nomination and stunning reviews. Magpie is returning home to Dublin with in a newly developed iteration!

"Consistently good performances from both Cusack and Irwin delivering a well-judged script, peppered with black jokes, sarcasm, brotherly jibes and childhood recollections." -A Youngish perspective ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
