Chiara Bersani
A fragile symbol is made manifest by an extraordinary artist. The mythical unicorn has been abused and misrepresented by mankind. Chiara Bersani wants to give them a story, a choice and, most of all, love.
“I, Chiara Bersani, 98 cm tall, embody the flesh, muscles and bones of the unicorn. I, Chiara Bersani will embrace and illuminate its long-distorted identity.”
In Seeking Unicorns, Bersani embodies that fantastic creature and with delicate movements and a steady gaze, she invites us to reframe its story.
Bersani’s award-winning work combines contemporary dance and performance. She suffers from a moderate form of brittle bone disease and her work emphasises the political significance that a body can assume. “You are not the one who interprets me, I will show you the path to comprehend me,” says Bersani. “I determine the image that the world will have of me and my body”.
